Shoesday: Decisions, Decisions

Glamor! Excitement! Culture! Belgian Fries!

That's right; as of Thursday night I will be leaving on a trip to New York City, to celebrate Mary's bachelorette party and visit with Lisa. This is, of course, an excellent thing, and like so many excellent things it requires a careful choice of shoes.

In a perfect world, no choices would be necessary, and there would be no extra bag charges on airplanes, and helpful attendants to carry things everywhere. But on this imperfect plane (and the very imperfect, and overcrowded planes it takes to travel across it), decisions must be made.

I'm fairly sure I want to bring these for evening wear, especially if my outfit ideas pan out. I'm also inclined to bring my other Bloch shoes (not pictured) because they are comfortable, reasonably cute and exactly the right height for my best pair of jeans.

But then we come to the questions. Do I need sandals? Do I need more comfortable sandals?

And what about boots? Do I need boots?

There's also the question of weather. According to the Weather Channel there are thunderstorms forecast for Friday, which would indicate that I should have something waterproof on hand.

If there has been one consistent factor in my visits to New York, it has been walking. So maybe something in the sneaker family would be a good idea to have on hand. On the other hand, we have my vanity to consider, and I've worn these enough to be confident in their comfort.

(continued after the jump, because I just discovered I can do that)

And then we have the matter of the show-stoppers. It's not so much that I feel like I have to compete, or impress here, but the fact that I have a lot of incredibly fantastic shoes and a limited number of opportunities to reasonably wear them. But if there were ever a place for the wearing of fancy shoes, it would be Manhattan, and you're crazy if you think I am going to let an opportunity like this pass me by. Who needs to pack clothes, anyway?

I can't list every fancy shoe I own (well, I could, but that would take the entire blog, which is sort of the point), so I'll just run through a few highlights. These are probably out, due to the walking factor, combined with the technically-a-half-size-too-small factor.

But that wouldn't prevent me from breaking out the Pucci, or maybe stepping out in something a little bit more predatory (in material, at least). Or maybe I should be welcoming spring, if it has actually arrived, with something more along the Prada lines.

On the other hand, I wore these with great success last time I was there; why mess with a good thing? And then there's the green satin de la Rentas I haven't even photographed yet. . .

As you can see, it is a dilemma. And the fact remains that, since only bringing one is already overreaching what it really makes sense to pack, so I'm going to have to narrow it down a bit here. So I ask you, dear reader, if you were me, what would you do?

well, whatever you decide, don't bring practical rain shoes. I'll lend you mine if you want, but don't waste the space. Other than that, I can only say that we are having CRAZY weather here, so there's no use trying to predict - bring what you love and we will make it work!

J-Lo be damned (not literally, but with respect to her ill-conceived song). Those are the shoes.
